Getting Back Your Driver's License Using Bankruptcy
People often come to me about bankruptcy with the idea of getting back their driver's license. Typically what happened is that they got into a car wreck that was deemed to be their fault and they didn't have insurance on the car. The insurance company for the other driver sues them and gets a court judgment that has the effect of blocking their driver's license until they enter into some kind of payment arrangement.
Fortunately, bankruptcy eliminates those kinds of court judgments and lets you get back your license. It also eliminates the reinstatement fees you would ordinarily have to pay to the BMV in order to get your license back. The amount of money you would otherwise have to pay in order to get back your license typically amounts to $10,000 or more, so using bankruptcy to get your driver's license back makes a lot of sense for most people.
